'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Young People Desperately Seek Information After Ski Resort Blaze
The families of teens unaccounted for after a devastating fire at a bar in a Switzerland's ski resort are enduring an excruciating wait for confirmed information and requesting information about their children via social media.
The inferno engulfed the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of January 1st. Verified footage depict the roof structure being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the fatalities of the tragedy, which killed four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. A spokesperson said on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with efforts still underway to locate the final individuals.
In the meantime, families and friends have been using the internet to request information about their friends who were present at the venue that night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.
The who lives of a town near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she said.
She continued that some of his companions had been found with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian foreign ministry has confirmed that six of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now residing in the UAE.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is deceased, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who represented dedication and true sportsmanship."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His parent said that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"A companion informed me they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his teachers stated, "He was known for his good nature and smile, coupled with great responsibility. Every time offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek nationality but lives permanently in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her sibling has published an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the case.
